At the weekend, the France striker, turned down a move to Real Madrid in favor of renewing his 3-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions. Before PSG’s final home game of the Ligue 1 season against Metz, Kylian Mbappeaddressed the entire Parc des Princes fans.
The announcement enraged Spain’s La Liga, which described the agreement as “scandalous.”
“It’s not right for me to leave my country,” Mbappe said. “I am convinced that here I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level. I am also delighted to continue to play in France, the country where I was born, where I have grown up and where I have made my name.”
To win the Champions League
PSG is yet to win the Champions League, which president Nasser Al-Khelaifi feels that with Mbappe now on board, the team can win the competition.
“We want to create more trophies. We’ve won a lot so far, and we want to win more “he said. “We want to win the Champions League. With our sporting goals, we’re on the same track.” PSG allegedly promised Mbappe more authority over sporting choices in an attempt to convince him to stay.
Mbappe said that his sole focus and responsibility for the club is on the pitch, as he remains a footballer, who is part of a team, and I will not go beyond this role.”
“Everyone knows I wanted to leave last year and was confident it was the greatest decision, but things change with time.”
Ligue 1 needs to be respected
In response to Mbappe’s decision to stay at PSG, La Liga announced plans to file a complaint with UEFA, as well as French and EU authorities,
La Liga president Javier Tebas described the deal as “scandalous,” adding that it “threatens the economic survival of European football.”
“Perhaps it is a good thing if Ligue 1 is doing better than La Liga,” Al-Khelaifi replied.
“La Liga is no longer the same as it was three or four years ago.” All of the clubs have my respect, but we also require it.
“What matters to us is that we have the best player with us.” It makes no difference what other people think. That does not appeal to me.”
